Bio

Valerie Monteiro is a passionate counsellor who values compassion, honesty and zeal. She is a humanist and works with psycho-dynamic approaches to get to the core of issues and facilitate holistic healing.

Since 1995, Valerie has worked extensively as a naturopath, psychotherapist, ayurvedic practitioner and yoga instructor. In 2001 she was awarded a prize from V Care for helping hundreds of cancer patients in India. She has completed a counselling degree at Notre Dame University.

Valerie migrated to Australia in 2002 and has since counselled people from all different walks of life. She has worked in mental health and addiction rehab centres. She has spent several years working as a relationship, bereavement, mediation, family, and children’s counsellor. She is currently a clinical supervisor and manages the School of Allied Health.

Valerie is eclectic in her skills and uses a wide range of specialist techniques. She uses Imago Couples Therapy to work with couples to bring harmony, flow and romance back into their relationships. She has also worked extensively with EMDR and Tapping for those affected by trauma. In her work with grief & loss and children, she has found reliable outcomes with Art Therapy, Music Therapy, and Theraplay. Valerie also employs Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, person centred approaches, Solution Focused Therapy and addiction counselling in her practice.

She has been registered with the Australian Counselling Association for over 15 years. Valerie is continuously studying new counselling methodologies to bring about maximum positive therapeutic change in her clients and provides a safe and nonjudgmental environment.

Valerie facilitates engaging and therapeutic workshops for self-esteem, anxiety, parenting and Grief and Loss.
